The Scrap Weeks.6 Baby Headband

For every momma out there that needs (yes, needs!) this headband for your baby girl, this project is a must!  I don't have a baby girl (yet :)), so I made this for my niece, Rees, whom I thought just had to have.

You will need:
Scrap Fabric (headband)
Contrasting Fabric (yo-yo flower)
Sewing Machine & Thread
Elastic
Button

How to make the Headband:

Cut your fabric:
Headband 14" long and 4" wide, one small piece 5" long and 2" wide, and elastic 4" long.
These measurements were made for 6-12 months old.  If you want to change the size of the headband, just measure the circumference of the head.

Press all raw edges in on both pieces of fabric.

Fold in half lengthwise and press.

Top stitch along the two long sides of the headband and small piece.  Leave the ends open.

Slide the elastic through the opening of the small piece and sew it in place.

Slide the small piece into the opening ends of the headband and sew it closed.  Back stitch over the elastic for a good hold.

How to make the Yo-Yo Flower:

With your contrasting fabric, cut out a circle using a cup, a bowl, or anything circular in any size you want.  Keep in mind, the flower will turn out half the size.

Knot off a threaded needle and stitch all the way around the outside of the circle.

Pull the thread so the outside of the circle gathers into the center.  To secure the center, add a couple of stitches, then attach your button to cover the raw edges.

Lastly, attach the yo-yo flower to the headband.  Now go put it on that little lady of yours and enjoy it before she takes it off!
